Leeuwarden, NL [ENA] One year ago, October 31, 2019 a special day in history for the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) was made. The first operational Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II (registration F-009) arrived on a beautiful, sunny, but cold Autumn day at it’s new home, Leeuwarden Air Base in the Netherlands,

41 years after the first RNLAF F-16 Fighting Falcon landed at Leeuwarden AB. The first operational RNLAF F-35A (F-009) successfully completed its first flight in Italy on September 9, 2019. Three days later, on September 12, 2019 the aircraft was presented in Cameri (Italy) where the Italian aircraft manufacturer Leonardo is manufacturing the new stealth fighter jet for Lockheed Martin. Leonardo has a production line for wings and an assembly line on which it assembles the aircraft.

Everybody of us remember Bungling Dutch air force firefighters give the country's first F-35A jet a foam bath instead of a water cannon salute at official arrival ceremony. · Hundreds gathered to see arrival of stealth combat jet at Leeuwarden Air Base with Royal Netherlands Air Force mix-up saw two crash trucks shoot foam at aircraft after base firefighters had 'responded to real emergency involving F-16 Viper fighter jet earlier and forgot to switch to shooting regular water for ceremony.
